O UnrealIRCd acaba de lançar um novo release candidate, com várias novidades de segurança e correções de bugs.

Embora a PTirc tente ser o mais estável possível, sou um testador do próprio UnrealIRCd, o que significa que, por vezes, a dada altura, a PTirc utilizará algumas versões de teste como é o caso de hoje.

A atualização da rede será realizada por volta das 14h00 (GMT+2) e prevê-se que a rede fique inacessível durante menos de 1 minuto.

UnrealIRCd just released a new release candidate, with several new security features and bugfixes.

While PTirc tries to be as much stable as possible I’m a tester for UnrealIRCd itself which means that sometimes, at some point, PTirc will be using some testing releases like it’s today’s case.

The network update will be carried around 2PM (GMT+2) and the network is expected to be unreachable for less than 1 minute.

Coinciding with the launch of yet another stable version of UnrealIRCd, PTirc will update the network as well as the servers that host the network and other services.

Como esta atualização involve atualizações ao sistema operativo das máquinas que hospedam todos os serviços da rede, implicará que as próprias máquinas sejam reiniciadas, o que implica mais perturbações nas ligações à rede.

Esperamos que todos estes problemas sejam devido a algum pacote ou livraria de sistema defeituoso(a) e que estas atualizações servirão para mitigar o problema.

Dear PTirc users:

The network, for unknown reasons, has had some problems in terms of connections between servers, etc.

We will carry out an emergency update, both at the machine level and at the IRCd and service level.

As this update involves updates to the operating system of the machines that host all network services, it will require the machines themselves to be restarted, which implies further disruption to network connections.

We hope that all of these problems are due to some faulty system package or library and that these updates will serve to mitigate the problem.

Isso implica reiniciar todas as VPS’s para instalar as ultimas atualizações de kernel, segurança e outros, o que provocará breves interrupções no normal funcioanamento da rede.
Um novo post será feito com uma hora mais precisa e tempo de duração estimado.

PTirc will update the VPS’s that host the network and other services over the weekend.
This involves restarting all VPS’s to install the latest kernel, security and other updates, which will cause brief interruptions in the normal functioning of the network.
A new post will be made with a more precise time and estimated duration.

O UnrealIRCd (IRCd utilizado pela PTirc) descobriu, através de testes internos, uma falha grave no software e fez um post sobre isso na quinta feira.

Aparentemente essa falha (ainda não divulgada), torna possível que um utilizador normal faça o IRCd “crashar”.

Desta forma, uma versão corrigida (UnrealIRCd 6.1.4) será lançada este sábado, 16 de dezembro de 2023, às 16h GMT.

UnrealIRCd (IRCd used by PTirc) discovered, through internal tests, a serious flaw in the software and made a post about it on Thursday.

The URL for the post is: https://forums.unrealircd.org/viewtopic.php?t=9339 (English only).

Apparently this flaw (not yet disclosed) makes it possible for a normal user to make the IRCd “crash”.

Therefore, a fixed version (UnrealIRCd 6.1.4) will be released this Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 16:00 GMT.

PTirc will then update its servers and, during the update, the network will need to be restarted more than once, which will make it inaccessible for brief moments.

Aproveitando que é necessário actualizar o IRCd, a PTirc vai também actualizar as VPS que hospedam os servidores.

A actualização das VPS e do IRCd acontecerá por volta das 22H de Paris (GMT +2).

Durante a actualização, a rede irá necessitar de ser reiniciada mais que uma vez, o que fará com que a mesma fique inacessível durante breves momentos.
